Happy Thanksgiving from the One Mouth Band

The One Mouth Band has plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! As well as all the usuals (good health, good family & friends, good music, an unusually blessed life, etc.), there have recently been a series of great opportunities to take his music across the country. Thanks to all the fans who helped make this and so many other great things possible! Best wishes to your and yours on this holiday!

Summit Success, part three - SoJam

Last weekend's SoJam A Cappella Festival was a fun, first effort of a new non-profit bringing a cappella to the Southeast USA, and it was a big hit with the college crowd! The One Mouth Band enjoyed getting in on the ground floor by teaching two workshops, "Singing Beyond Your Voice" and "Improvising Without Fear", as well as giving an impressive performance at the Saturday Showcase concert that earned a screaming ovation!

Swinging at Kelly's

The Irrationals (featuring Sam Rogers on vocal percussion) and The One Mouth Band enjoyed a marvelous evening at Kelly's of Alameda, a nice, new, Jazz club right downtown. The food was absolutely great, the atmosphere was classy, and The Irrationals gave one of their best performances to date! Each of the three sets also made room for featuring the One Mouth Band, who did a crowd-pleasing blend of Jazz and Rock material. The show went so well that Kelly himself offered another Thursday night performance sometime in January. Stay tuned for details!

Summit Success, Part Two - West Coast

Eleven years ago Sam Rogers attended the very first A Cappella Summit as a high school student and dreamed of being one of the groups up on stage. Yesterday The One Mouth Band fulfilled this dream by finally performing at the West Coast A Cappella Summit as he opened the Sunday Afternoon Showcase Concert! The moment was made even sweeter when he walked on stage to a crowd chanting "ONE MOUTH BAND! ONE MOUTH BAND!" It was one of The One Mouth Band's stronger performances (dispite a recent cold) and the audience of singers loved his interactive sing-a-longs and dazzling vocal acrobatics. The Sound Exploration with Sam Rogers workshop also went very well. Though it started at 9:30AM with only a few students, the numbers filled in steadily until there was a standing room only crowd at the door! When the workshop was over, again several professional teachers (as well as plenty of students) made a point of saying how much they appreciated the way the workshop was taught and how inspired they were to take their new skills home!

East Bay performance this Thursday

The Irrationals (featuring Sam Rogers on vocal percussion) and The One Mouth Band are performing this Thursday, November 13th, at a new, downtown Jazz club called Kelly's of Alameda. The show starts at 8:30PM, there's no cover charge or age minimum, but there is a full bar and restaraunt (the dinner menu's "California cuisine" is getting rave reviews)! Come on down for a great dinner, great music, and great show! Kelly's of Alameda

Summit Success, Part One - East Coast

The first of this month's string of a cappella events just finished, and the One Mouth Band had a great time! For those that couldn't make it, here are the details:
The One Mouth Band was a very vocal member of the Vocal Percussion Panel, along side Ed Chung from Duwende, Freddie Feldman of Vocomotion Studios, John Ryan from Ball in the House, and graciously hosted by Wes Carrol of The House Jacks and MouthDrumming.com. Sam took advantage of this perfect opportunity to announce his new Lipbiz product, which was well received!
The Saturday Night Concert packed the house with enthusiastic a cappella fans. The One Mouth Band opened the show with thoat-singing/overtones which seamlessly warped into a wailing guitar intro for Jimi Hendrix's Foxy Lady. Without stopping to catch a breath, an audience-interactive improvisation paved the way for the evening's host and launched the show. The evening went on to feature Blue Jupiter, All About Buford, Cadence, Duwende, and a farewell performance by the legendary Five O'Clock Shadow.
The Sunday Afternoon Showcase Concert included twenty-minutes of One Mouth Band performance. The improvised set list (as is typical) ended up including: One Mouth Band, a Jazz medley (Night and Day, Till There Was You, Night in Tunisia), a Funk/Rock medley (Cissy Strut, Jungle Boogie, Oh Yeah, Rock & Roll Part Two, and Fly Like an Eagle). The One Mouth Band was a hit!
Part of the One Mouth Band 101 workshop was co-led by East Coast Summit Executive Producer Jonathan Minkhoff who focused on opening everyone's ears and mouths up to overtones. Sam then made relevant the explanations and examples by showing how the same concepts were the foundations of imitative sound. He focused on bass and guitar sounds, and ended by transitioning to the skills required for beatbox (thereby introducing the next session). It was a very well received workshop which resulted in many compliments, several from professional teachers!
The One Mouth Band Sales Table was busy much of the weekend. Sales of the CD, brand new T-shirts, and especially Lipbiz were good, and provided an easy way for fans to connect with Sam. Sam also enjoyed networking with other performers (Cadence, All About Buford, Ball in the House, Duwende, Sean Altman, Gabe Rutman, Freddie Feldman, Adam Matta) and a cappella business-folk (including CASA, Mainely A Cappella, Bill Hare, Jonathan Minkhoff, Joel Foner).
So, same time next year? We'll see...

Lipbiz is here!

New from One Mouth Band Labs, a professional lip lubricant for Vocal Percussionists, Beatboxers, and other Vocal Musicians! Lipbiz is sightly larger than your average lipbalm, and engineered for a very different purpose. Common lip protectants can get in the way of your vocal drumming and instrument imitation, Lipbiz actually lubricates the lips, optimizing them for beatboxing and leaving your mouth minty-fresh! Lipbiz is making its debut this weekend at the East Coast A Cappella Summit. See www.Lipbiz.com for more!
