Great Sparks Afire!

The One Mouth Band was a big hit last weekend, receiving a standing ovation for his performance at the final Sparks Afire performance of the season at The Sparks Amphitheater! He then proceeded to sit in as the vocal percussionist with host group Tune-Ami for their a cappella/theater/dance piece, "The A Cappella Zone". All sorts of local characters were part of this final show of the season, including an Elvis impersonator who didn't cover any Elvis tunes, three dance troupes, a vocal jazz trio, and great several solo jazz, country, and pop singers. And while in Reno, Sam made his gas money back on the nickel slots!

Appologies to anyone that was looking for The One Mouth Band at the Berkeley Festival, but hopefully you enjoyed the other beatboxers! Apparently the Festival wanted to see only the Gen-Y beatboxers, and by the time The Vowel Movement communicated this to Sam it was too late to get the word out to this list.

One Mouth Band To Rock Both Coasts!

The One Mouth Band will perform and teach at BOTH the East Coast A Cappella Summit and West Coast A Cappella Summit coming up in November! These Summits are the biggest events of the year in the a cappella world. Sam will be performing at the Matinee/Showcase concerts and teaching workshops at both events. After teaching to a standing-room-only crowd at the 2002 West Coast Summit, he looks forward to reaching even more a cappella enthusiasts at this year's event. He is also thrilled to be giving his first performances on the East Coast as the One Mouth Band. More details will be posted in next month's newsletter, and on the One Mouth Band calendar.

One Mouth Band in BeatBoxLand

The Vowel Movement

The local beatbox community is growing stronger with every Vowel Movement! This last beatbox salon was held at its new first-Tuesday-of-the-month home at Studio Z in San Francisco, and featured The One Mouth Band, Z-ROX (aka Andrew Chaiken of House Jacks fame), Infinite & Soulati (from Felonius), Tim Barsky (BeatBox BattleFlutist), Each, Vocal Wax, LeeJay, IO, and more! The One Mouth Band wasn't the only Vowel Movement performer to claim a recent victory in Austria, the Sacramento-based LeeJay won first-place in the Austrian Beatbox Championship in July, just before The One Mouth Band won his two Ward Swingle Awards at Vokal Total.
